Rena F. Subotnik ist seit Januar 2002 Direktorin des Center for Psychology in the Schools and Education der American Psychological Association. Zuvor war sie Professorin für Pädagogik am Hunter College, wo sie das Bildungsprogramm für die Sekundarstufe koordinierte und als Verbindungsglied zu den Hunter College Laborschulen für Forschung und Curriculumsentwicklung wirkte.

Rena F. Subotnik hat Auszeichnungen der McDonnell Foundation, der National Science Foundation, des Institut for Education Sciences, der Jack Cooke Foundation, der Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation, der American Psychological Foundation, des U.S. Department of Education Javits Program und der Spencer Foundation erhalten.
